Prison Island
The beautiful beaches of Prison Island are only a 5 km boat ride away from the shores of Stone Town, Zanzibar. On the island you can get to know the history of the island and the prison built on it in 1893, which was intended to house sick people and violent prisoners. Nowadays the prison is owned by a hotel.
You can also visit the tortoise sanctuary where you have the chance to touch, feed and take pictures of the giant tortoise. The tortoise were imported from Seychelles in the late 19th century, many of them are said to be over 150 years old and the average weight to be 200kg.
On the island you have the opportunity to snorkel and explore the beautiful Indian Ocean, and relax under the sun.
